In this series, a five-storey multi-level parking lot was arranged at the Birsa Munda Athletics Stadium complex near Bisra Chowk at a cost of about Rs 40 crore. 160 cars can be kept here at a time. But it has been one and a half years since the construction of the project, but it has not been started yet. Actually, because this project is far from the daily market, people avoid leaving their vehicles here. In addition, to reduce congestion, new state-of-the-art parking facilities are needed on three-fourths of the main road. There is enough land for this, but for some reason the Rourkela administration is not considering it.
Departmental Zero Initiative for Smart Parking System
Next to the old taxi stand is an old colony of the PWD department. There is about an acre of unused government land there. If a modern parking lot was built there, the problem could be solved to some extent. Apart from this, similar projects can be built at Traffic Gate, Power House Road area as well. But the irony is that there is no departmental initiative for a smart parking system in the city. Of course, there are small parking spaces, but they are not useful. In such a situation, keeping in mind the needs of the city residents, the multi-level parking system seems to be the only option.
