Pixel 9 series: Everything you need to know about the ‘Made by Google’ smartphones | Gadgets

Google has launched the Pixel 9 series and the lineup is full of surprises, including an all-new design language, more AI capabilities, and improved camera setups. Moreover, there are four models in the Pixel 9 series – Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold – as opposed to the two-model lineup that the US-based tech giant has historically pursued. Importantly, all four models are coming to India, starting with the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL, available for pre-orders from August 14 and sale begins from August 22. The Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro Fold will be available from later dates. Here’s everything you need to know about the Pixel 9 series:

Pixel 9 series: What do they have in common?

The Pixel 9 series is powered by Tensor G4, which enables new AI capabilities that leverage Gemini Nano’s multimodal model to reason across text, audio, and visuals. As Google devices, the line supports the Gemini assistant out of the box with access to Google apps for enhanced functionality.

The Pixel 9 series has all the mobile AI editing features introduced with the Pixel 8 series, but a few new tools have been added to improve the experience. These include an improved Magic Editor with support for auto-reframing, which suggests the best crop and also expands the image, and a new Reimagine feature that helps you tap on a part of the image you want to change and type in the request to change it.

As for what’s new, there’s a “Pixel Screenshot” feature, which Google says allows the Pixel to remember everything so you don’t have to. You can search for information using audio or text, and the Pixel will return curated information from screenshots available on the device. Google said this feature is an AI feature unique to the Pixel, and it processes all the information on the device.

Also new is “Add Me,” which will launch in preview with the Pixel 9 series. Like last year’s models, the Pixel 9 series will receive software and security support from Google for seven years.

The Pixel 9 series shares many similarities, but it also has distinct differences between the base model and the Pro models that cater to different user preferences. However, the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL are nearly identical, albeit with differences in display size and battery capacity. In order to highlight the key differences, let’s compare the Pixel 9 to the Pixel 9 Pro:
