Prime Minister Modi in Singapore: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday met Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong to discuss enhancing cooperation between the two nations. Modi is on a two-day visit to Singapore at the invitation of Wong.
Ahead of their official talks, PM Modi was given a ceremonial welcome at Singapore’s Parliament and signed the visitors’ book. The meeting is significant as it marks the first interaction between the two leaders since Wong took over as Singapore’s prime minister and Modi began his third term as India’s prime minister. The two countries signed four memorandums of understanding.

Ahead of the talks with Wong, Modi was given a red-carpet welcome at Singapore’s Parliament House. He also signed the visitors’ book there. “A new chapter in relations – a comprehensive strategic partnership is in place. PM @narendramodi and PM @LawrenceWongST had a productive meeting in Singapore today,” Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a post on X after the meeting.
“The leaders agreed to elevate ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. They reviewed in depth various facets of the bilateral relationship spanning areas of Advanced Manufacturing, Connectivity, Digitalisation, Health and Medicine, Skill Development and Sustainability,” it said. The meeting between the two leaders comes days after Wong assumed office and Modi began his third term as Prime Minister.
Later, PM Modi will meet President Tharman Shanmugaratnam. Several agreements are expected to be signed between India and Singapore, covering areas such as digital technologies, healthcare, education, skill development and semiconductor collaboration.
