Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch three new Vande Bharat trains on August 31, which will improve connectivity between Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. The Railway Ministry stressed the importance of these trains in promoting faster and more comfortable travel, in line with India’s Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives.

Importance of Vande Bharat Trains

First launched on 15 February 2019 under the ‘Make in India’ initiative, the Vande Bharat Express has become a symbol of luxury and speed in rail travel. Currently, there are over 100 Vande Bharat services in operation connecting over 280 districts across the country and significantly transforming the travel experience of millions of people.

Regional impact of the new trains

  • Vande Bharat Express Train from Meerut City to Lucknow: This is the first Vande Bharat train to connect Meerut with Lucknow. It is expected to boost religious tourism and support local industries with faster connectivity to the state capital.
  • Madurai-Bengaluru Vande Bharat Express: This train will connect the city of Madurai with the cosmopolitan hub of Bengaluru and facilitate business, educational and work travel between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
  • Chennai Egmore-Nagercoil Vande Bharat Express: The first Vande Bharat service in this picturesque region will cover 726 km and connect 12 districts of Tamil Nadu. It is expected to significantly improve travel for both pilgrims and local residents.

World-class services

Vande Bharat trains are equipped with advanced safety features such as Kavach technology, swivel seats, Divyangjan-friendly toilets and integrated Braille signage, ensuring a modern and inclusive travel experience.

Improving tourism and local economies

The launch of these trains is expected to not only improve connectivity but also support religious tourism and local economies, particularly in regions like Meerut and Nagercoil, by providing faster and more efficient travel options.
