PMAY waiting list in Bihar crosses 1350000, now Shravan Kumar is eyeing Shivraj Singh Chauhan – prdhan mantri awas yojna waiting list in bihar crosses 1350000

Patna: The number of applicants for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in Bihar has increased to over 13.50 lakh. The main reason for this is that the Central Government has not set any target for Bihar for the last three financial years. Due to this, the waiting list for PMAY in the state has become very long. However, Bihar Rural Development Minister Shravan Kumar met Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan and demanded approval of at least six lakh new houses.

Unfulfilled dream of building a house

The increasing waiting list of PMAY has become a big problem in Bihar. In the three years 2022-23, 2023-24 and the current financial year 2024-25, the Central Government has not set any new target for PMAY in Bihar. Due to this, the dream of poor families in the state to build their own houses remains unfulfilled. However, many reasons are given behind this. It is also said that for the last 22 months the BJP, the ruling party at the Centre, was not in the government in Bihar. The second reason is that utility certificates of around 50,000 houses are still pending. Apart from this, lack of funds is also a major reason.

Bihar seeks Centre’s approval to build 6 lakh houses

Bihar Rural Development Minister Shravan Kumar met Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan on this issue. He has demanded that Bihar be given approval to construct at least 6 lakh new houses under PMAY. Let us inform him that no survey of SC/ST families has been conducted in the state since 2018-19. In such a situation, the state government estimates that many new SC/ST families will be formed during this period. Therefore, the state government has also sought permission from the Centre to conduct a survey of these families.

Long waiting list for PMAY in Bihar

According to officials of the Rural Development Department, there are many reasons for the long waiting list of PMAY. The utilisation certificate of around 50,000 PMAY houses is pending. Due to this, the central government is reluctant to set a new target. Not only this, the Bihar government is facing many problems in sending the utility certificate. There are many beneficiaries whose PMAY house remains incomplete and now there is no heir in their family. Some beneficiaries have not constructed the house after paying the first installment and now they are not living in that place. There are many beneficiaries who have been affected by floods or some disaster and have not been able to complete their PMAY house. Due to all these reasons, there is difficulty in paying the third installment of PMAY.
