Poco F6 Deadpool Edition review: A look at everything that’s changed

Poco recently launched its first special edition smartphone in India, the Poco F6 Deadpool Edition. Hardware-wise, it’s the same Poco F6 that was launched in May with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset, a 50MP + 8MP camera setup, and a 5000mAh battery, but Poco has made a few design changes with this device that it hopes will compel buyers to spend a few bucks more.

I got my hands on the Deadpool Edition of the Poco F6 to explore the new design changes and other improvements compared to the standard one. Poco F6 (review) I tried it earlier this year.

Unpacked:

If you’ve been disappointed by the quick and often similar unboxing experiences offered by most major smartphones, you’ll find a refreshing change with the Poco F6 Deadpool Edition. This massive, vibrant yellow and black box definitely stands out, with eye-catching avatars of Deadpool and Wolverine prominently displayed on the front, with the Poco logo positioned in the top-left corner and the movie’s branding adorning the bottom-left corner.

Opening the flaps of the box, you’ll find that the Poco F6 is positioned in the centre, while the accessories are cleverly stored in two separate themed boxes inspired by Deadpool and Wolverine, which can be easily pulled out from the sides. The Deadpool box (on the left) contains the quick start guide, SIM removal tool, and the back cover, while the Wolverine box (on the right) contains the 120W adapter and USB cable.

What has changed with the Deadpool Edition of the Poco F6:

Starting with the phone itself, the Poco F6 Deadpool Edition The phone has a completely different look than the original model. It has a glossy finish in a dark red color that tends to change hue when exposed to light. The subtle Deadpool branding starts just above the circular cutouts for the camera and goes downwards. The Deadpool and Wolverine avatars are prominently placed in the middle of the phone, followed by the Marvel Studios logo and the official branding for the movie. The flash ring also has Deadpool’s photo printed on it.

The accessories get a makeover too, with the special edition Poco F6 coming equipped with Deadpool branding on both sides of the 120W power adapter, and even the SIM eject tool gets a cute Deadpool-themed makeover, which is a big plus in my book.

While the design of the back is certainly eye-catching, there are no other changes to the overall design of the phone. It remains relatively slim and easy to hold, measuring 7.8mm thick and weighing around 180 grams. However, the phone retains a boxy feel and the flat edges can be a little uncomfortable to hold for extended periods without the back cover. Speaking of the back cover, it’s still the same grey silicone case included with the standard edition. I consider this to be a missed opportunity, but Poco claims that it was a design choice made to let the Deadpool photo stand out.

Should you buy the Deadpool Edition of the Poco F6? 29,999?

The Poco F6 Deadpool Edition is priced at 33,999 for the only configuration of 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and with bank offers, it can be effectively purchased for 29,999. In comparison, the standard version with the same configurations is priced at 31,999, while the top-of-the-range 512GB variant is also available for 33,999.

For an additional For 2000, you get a full unboxing experience, a custom back design, and themed accessories including a charger and SIM ejector tool. However, Poco doesn’t offer any special software features like Deadpool- and Wolverine-themed wallpapers and themes, and the standard grey back cover feels like a missed opportunity.

In conclusion, the Poco F6 Deadpool Edition is designed for Marvel and Deadpool fans who are willing to spend a little more for a stylish device and exclusive Deadpool-themed accessories.
