Murder of a doctor in Kolkata: On Monday, the BJP protested with gherao at the DM office over the RG Kar hospital incident in Kolkata and demanded safety of women. In Cooch Behar, there was a clash between the police and BJP workers and at some places the police resorted to lathicharge. The police used water cannons to disperse the protesters. During this period, former Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nishith Pramanik was also arrested.
Police arrested Nishit Pramanik
The procession was moving towards the district collector’s office under the leadership of former Union minister of Cooch Behar, Nishith Pramanik. The police then stopped the procession midway. The BJP workers tried to move forward by breaking the barricade. On one occasion, Nishith Pramanik had an argument with the police. The matter became more heated. Pushing and shoving started. To control the situation, the police had to resort to lathicharge.
The workers threw bricks
Following this, BJP leaders and workers started pelting bricks. Later, the police fired tear gas shells. Overall, the situation became tense. Many people, including Nishit Pramanik, were arrested. It is noteworthy that there have been reports of riots from different parts of the state regarding this programme. There has been a scuffle between the police and the BJP.

We want justice: Locket Chatterjee
BJP leader Locket Chatterjee said, We were going to the DM office but were stopped. A rope was even tied to the gate. It would have been better if this rope had been tied around the neck of the culprits. There is a rope for us but there is no rope for the culprits. We want justice. If justice is not done, the Chief Minister should resign.
