Power supply was disrupted for seven hours in Kumardhubi grid due to a fault in Maithon Hydel.

The departmental team under the leadership of Partho Sarathi Das, in-charge of DVC Kumardhubi Grid, carried out the repair work on a war footing. Electricity was restored on Kumardhubi grid at around 1.30 pm. Later, power supply was normalized at Railways, BCCL, ICL, JBVNL and industrial units. Supply to Railways stopped for two hours: Due to disruption in power supply, production in BCCL CV, JBVNL, Government of Bengal area and nearby small and large industrial units was affected. Power supply from Kumardhubi grid was cut off for two hours from Asansol to Pradhankhanta station. Railways maintained normal train operations by taking electricity from DVC Durgapur. Due to this, water drainage works of BCCL and ECL mines were affected. At ICL, Nirsa, 350 tonnes of coal production was affected. Due to disruption in power supply from DVC, production in the first shift of ICL coal mines was stopped. Production of 21 tonnes at Hadiyajam 5/6, 45 tonnes at Lakhimata, 40 tonnes at Shyampur B and 15 tonnes at Kumardhubi-Bhigyalkhi was stopped. Production of 350 tonnes of coal from the underground mine was stopped. Production at OCP remained normal. After power was restored, production started in the second shift. Grid affected due to fault at Hydel Due to a technical fault at Maithon Hydel, supply to Kumardhubi grid of DVC was affected. Panchet Hydel was also affected by this.
