Prime Minister Narendra Modi Welcome Prime Minister of Malaysia, Anwar bin Ibrahimat a welcome ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday morning as he begins his three-day state visit to India. This visit marks his first official trip to India since assuming office as Prime Minister. After the welcome ceremony, Prime Minister Anwar is scheduled to engage in bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra ModiAs part of the welcome, Prime Minister Modi hosted a grand lunch that included a fusion of Indian and Malaysian cuisine, as well as highlighting millets In all its splendor.

The menu offered diverse dishes that perfectly blended the flavours of India and Southeast Asia. “Subz Laksa” is a delicious fusion of Indian and Malaysian cuisines, with noodles and vegetables in a rich and spicy coconut broth. The dish was enhanced with Indian herbs and spices that honoured both cuisines. The “Pearl Makhani Wonton” showed a creative twist with filo dough sheets filled with a spiced pearl mixture. darlingcottage cheese and herbs, combined with a honey and chili sauce for a sweet and spicy contrast.

‘Subz Satay Kebab & Rojak’ continued the fusion theme, offering a vibrant combination of kebabs skewered on satay sticks and served with date chutney. The accompanying salad, made with assorted fruits and vegetables, is dressed with a spicy palm sugar dressing, providing a refreshing balance to the flavoursome kebabs. The ‘Lagan Ke Khumb’ dish features braised mushrooms cooked with onions, Bengali panch-phoron spices and cumin, bringing out the earthy flavours of traditional Indian cuisine.

Another healthy and nutritious millet-based option, the Ragi Cashew Dumpling in Spinach Curry consisted of millet, potato and cashew dumplings simmered in a spinach gravy. The menu also included the Nishatganj Ki Jhalfrezi, a vibrant mix of julienned beans, carrots, onions and bell peppers, which highlighted the freshness of the vegetables. The Gujarati Khatti Meethi Dal added a regional touch and an ode to Prime Minister Modi’s home state with its sweet and sour lentil preparation, while the Tamarind Rice complemented the meal with its tangy and aromatic flavour profile.

Although 2023 was officially proclaimed as the Year of Millets, these ancient supergrains have been gaining popularity internationally and have become a highly sought-after product for their nutritional value and ecological benefits. This lunch menu beautifully showcased how millet can be used in a variety of ways in both Indian and international cuisine.
