Sebi Chairman Madhabi Puri Buch
Youth Congress activists demonstrated outside the Sebi office in Mumbai on Monday, demanding an inquiry into the allegations levelled against Sebi chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch and her resignation.
The police detained the workers and arrested them from various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
Citing the report by US short-seller Hindenburg Research, party workers led by Mumbai Youth Congress president Akhilesh Yadav demanded Puri Buch’s resignation, alleging a conflict of interest.
“We wanted an inquiry into the allegations and Puri Buch’s resignation from office,” Yadav said.
Puri Buch and Sebi denied the allegations.
While Hindenburg had alleged that the Buchs had prior investments in a fund that was part of a network of funds used by two Adani associates to pump money and inflate the group’s share prices, Congress alleged conflict of interest in dealings with ICICI, where she worked till 2011, as well as with Mahindra Group and four other companies over consultancy fees given to her husband Dhaval Buch.
“We are honest and upright professionals and have conducted our respective professional lives with transparency and dignity,” Buchs said, describing their work record as “impeccable” and that they will shoot down all “motivated allegations even in the future.”
