According to a report by ESPNCRICINFO, Dravid has signed a contract with the team and has shared his thoughts ahead of the player retentions and mega auction.
Dravid has worked closely with team captain Sanju Samson, who developed his game under Dravid during his days at the under-19 level.
The 51-year-old managed Rajasthan Royals for two years. He then worked as the team manager and mentor in the 2014 and 2015 seasons. Dravid then worked with Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) before being appointed as the director of the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru in 2019. In the intervening years, Dravid also acted as the head coach of the Indian Under-19 team. Under him, the team finished as runners-up in the 2016 edition of the Under-19 World Cup and won the 2018 Under-19 World Cup.
Dravid is also likely to bring Vikram Rathour to Rajasthan Royals as batting coach. Rathour worked alongside Dravid and was the team’s batting coach.
According to the report, Dravid will take over the coaching duties of Rajasthan Royals from Kumar Sangakkara. The former Sri Lanka captain has been the director of cricket for Rajasthan Royals for the last three years. Sangakkara is likely to be appointed as the coach of Paarl Royals and Barbados Royals.
Rajasthan Royals were the winners of the inaugural IPL in 2008. The closest they came to winning the league again since 2008 was in 2022 when they reached the final. But the team was defeated by newcomers Gujarat Titans. This year they qualified for the play-offs before being knocked out by Sunrisers Hyderabad.
