Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Monday highlighted the plight of self-employed workers and said Congress governments in the states would frame concrete policies to address their issues while the Indian bloc would strive to ensure their implementation at the national level.
Gandhi made these comments on X, where she posted a video of a recent ride she took in an Uber taxi and the interaction she had with the driver.
“Low incomes and inflation ruin lives – that’s the plight of India’s freelancers! In a conversation with Sunil Upadhyay ji during an Uber ride and later after meeting his family, we took stock of the problems faced by freelancers like taxi drivers and delivery agents in the country,” the former Congress chief said in Hindi on X.
“They are barely surviving on a minimum income, with no savings or guarantees for the family’s future. To solve this, state governments in Congress will do justice with concrete policies,” he said.

He also talks about his thoughts on returning to his hometown, as he cannot make ends meet in Delhi.
Gandhi ends the trip and gives a gift to the taxi driver’s children.
The day after the trip, Gandhi is seen having lunch with the taxi driver’s family at a restaurant in Delhi.
Gandhi assures them that Congress governments in several states were thinking of self-employed workers and wanted to ensure social security for drivers and their families.
