Correspondent, Calcutta

Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials raided six places, including the residence and nursing home of Trinamool MLA from Shrirampur, Sudipta Rai, to probe financial irregularities at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. On Tuesday, ED officials reached Rai’s house and nursing home at Sinthi in north Kolkata. During this time, central security personnel were also with him.

The name came up in the investigation of facts related to Sandeep Ghosh.

After investigating some facts related to Dr Sandeep Ghosh, former director of RG Kar, who was arrested in the financial irregularities case, Sudipta’s name surfaced, following which the ED also questioned him. Earlier, the CBI had launched an operation to trace MP Rai. On that day, a drive was also conducted at the residence of MLA Rai at Dadpur village, Hooghly, in Dandpur. Rai’s residence and his nursing home at Sinthi were raided at around 6.45 am. During this period no one was allowed to enter or leave the residence. Rai, his family members and employees were questioned.

The Emergency Department also raided the medical equipment supplier.

On the same day, the residence and office of Sandeep Jain, owner of ‘Shri Yes Trading Company’, an organisation that supplies medical equipment to the Ballygunge hospital, were also raided. Trinamool MLA Rai was also the president of RG Kar’s Rogi Kalyan Samiti. It is also alleged that some medical items meant to be supplied to the hospital were delivered to a nursing home in Sinthi under the guise of RG. Rai’s nursing home is also in Sinthi.

On the other hand, ED officials also carried out a drive at a residence located in Sripalli, Bhawanipur. This residence is said to be that of former RG Kar director and close friend of Dr Sandeep Ghosh, arrested in the case.

It may be noted that on September 6, officials from the ED’s Kolkata zonal office carried out a search operation under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, at seven premises, including the residence of Sandeep Ghosh and the residences of his close relatives and associates.

He bought this bungalow located in Dadpur village in Dadpur in Hooghly from the local Nandi family in 2008. This bungalow is Sudipta Rai’s favourite place. Where she comes from time to time for holidays. The entrance gate of the bungalow is black. In the bungalow there is a small pond where some birds and pets are kept.
