Maharashtra: Protests broke out at Badlapur railway station in Thane district on Tuesday, halting local trains as agitators blocked the tracks following the alleged sexual assault of two minor girls at a local school last week. The Central Railway’s public relations officer confirmed that train services were suspended due to the agitation.
This incident has sparked deep anger among the residents of Badlapur, who have taken to the streets demanding justice. After the parents came to know about the assault on August 18 and lodged an FIR, the police arrested one person in the case. As a result, the movement of trains has been significantly affected due to the ongoing protests at the station.

The entire state is angry and demands justice. I once again urge the President to pass the Maharashtra Penal Power Act to ensure that no other child or woman has to face such humiliation. It is shameful that the state government is ignoring the safety of women,’ Chaturvedi said.
Maharashtra: The incident took place on August 12-13, 2024
The attack took place on 12 and 13 August 2024, when girls going to classes in the morning had gone to the toilet. The school had not hired female staff for the girls’ toilet. The accused Akshay Shinde was appointed on a contractual basis on 1 August 2024 and sexually exploited minor girls by taking advantage of his job of cleaning girls’ toilets.

The sexual harassment case came to light when a girl complained to her parents about pain in her private parts upon returning home from school. During further interrogation, she said that when she went to use the toilet, the accused had touched her private parts. The shocked parents then contacted the parents of another girl in the same class who was close to their daughter. The girl’s parents said that their daughter is afraid to go to school these days.
During the police investigation, numerous lapses and negligence on the part of the school management have come to light. Some parents said that besides there being no female attendant in the girls’ toilet, several CCTV cameras installed in the school were also not working.
