Rajasthan police officer arrested for bribery; police chief absconding

On Saturday night, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a Kota police constable for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 300,000 on behalf of a station house officer. The officer involved is on the run and remains at large.

Constable Bharat Ram Jat was arrested by the ACB from Kaithun police station after he was caught red-handed accepting bribe from a complainant. According to Vijay Swarnkar, ASP, ACB Kota, the bribe was demanded by Sub-Commissioned Officer Dhanraj Meena through Jat.

“The SHO, through the police officer, allegedly demanded bribe from the complainant to get possession of the agricultural land he had purchased, which was caught in a dispute,” Swarnkar said.

The ACB has filed a case against SHO Meena and constable Bharat Ram Jat under various sections of the Anti-Corruption Act.

In a subsequent search at the government headquarters of SHO Meena, the authorities also discovered liquor, leading to an additional case under the Excise Act. An excise team was called to the spot to address the alcohol-related violations.

The investigation into bribery and excise violations continues as efforts to trace SHO Meena continue.
