Chef-turned-actor Ranveer Brar talks about the response to his Bollywood debut, The Buckingham Murders.

Chef-turned-actor Ranveer Brar, who played the role of Daljeet Kohli in Hansal Mehta’s recently released The Buckingham Murders, says the response has been “overwhelming”. “It is very comforting to see that the industry appreciates it. Many senior officials in the sector praised my work, which means a lot to me,” he exclaims.

The 46-year-old, who marked his Bollywood debut with the film and worked on an OTT project. Modern Love Mumbai earlier, he says that an artist does not feel any difference between the two mediums. “When I saw the film on the big screen, I really understood it. Agar vo nahi hota toh, I really wouldn’t have understood the difference between filming for the web or for cinema. The small nuances that make the impact are much more important,” said. He continues, “A little music on the big screen has a much bigger impact than sitting at home and watching OTT. Toh jaise hum khaana banaate hue bhi bolte hain, bas vaise hi thoda namak mirch ka hisaab change karna hota hai.”

Ask him about The Buckingham Murders’ poor box office takings and he’ll tell you that there are many factors supporting these numbers. “I think I’m too new to all this. But we don’t know what may be happening behind the scenes. There are many factors that define the audience and aura of a film. Plus, it was a limited time release, only 172 screens. For him, the balance between his profession as a chef and now an actor is going well so far. “Being a chef is something you really can’t undo. Aisa toh hai nahi ki cycle chalaana bhul jaayenge. That’s something you are for life, and then your search is how to extend yourself. Some people write, some people play, I think It is a good extension and I would like to continue moving forward. I can’t complain, both things go well together,” he concludes.
