Indian wrestler Ritika Hooda has reached the quarterfinals of the 76kg women’s freestyle wrestling. In the pre-quarterfinal match played on August 10, Ritika Hooda defeated Hungarian wrestler Bernadette Nagy by 12-2. Ritika’s world ranking is currently at 54th, while Bernadette Nagy’s world ranking is 16th. In such a situation, Ritika has made a huge turnaround.

Ritika changed her weight class for the Olympics
Ritika Hooda started her wrestling career in the 68kg category, then stayed in the 72kg category for two years. Then, to prepare for the 2024 Paris Olympics, she moved to the 76kg category. Ritika won the gold medal by defeating Kennedy Blades in the women’s freestyle 76kg category during the World U-23 Championships in the year 2023. With this, she became the first Indian wrestler to win this title in this weight category.
India has won 6 medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics, out of which five are bronze and one is silver. Firstly, Manu Bhakar got the bronze in 10m air pistol. Then Manu Bhakar also got the second bronze in the mixed team event. Sarabjot Singh was also in the team with him. Swapnil Kusale won the third bronze medal in men’s 50m three-position rifle shooting. Then, the hockey team won the bronze medal and Neeraj Chopra won the silver medal. Then, wrestler Aman also won the bronze and hoisted the Indian tricolour in Paris.
