An example of this is a one-bedroom apartment, or 1BHK, located in Matunga. This apartment illustrates the rising rents and cramped living conditions of the city. The cozy living room offers a cozy atmosphere, while the bedroom is dominated by a large bed, leaving minimal space to move around. A small staircase from the living room leads to a loft, providing valuable additional storage space and making the most of the apartment’s limited square footage in this bustling metropolis.
The video of the 1BHK was shared on Instagram with the caption: “Old 1BHK for rent for just 45K.” The caption explained that the apartment is located in the Matunga East neighborhood of Mumbai.
The video of the property has gone viral on Instagram and also reached X (formerly Twitter). People who saw the clip took issue with two things: first, the rent, which many considered too high for such a small apartment; and second, the description of the apartment as “old vibe”, with people pointing out that it is actually a chawl.
“Purani chawl ko old school/old vibes bolkr 45k rent pr by rhe capitalism has commodified poverty to the next level,” reads a post on X.
