In a post on X (formerly Twitter), CM Reddy said, “I have the utmost respect and full faith in the Indian judiciary. I understand that certain media reports dated 29th August 2024 containing comments attributed to me have given the impression that I am questioning the judicial wisdom of the Hon’ble Court.”
Reddy also emphasised his commitment to the Constitution, saying, “I reiterate that I am a firm believer in the judicial process. I unconditionally express my regret over the statements reflected in the press reports. The remarks attributed to me in the said reports have been taken out of context. I have unconditional respect and the highest regard for the judiciary and its independence. As a firm believer in the Constitution of India and its ethos, I have held and continue to hold the judiciary in my highest regard,” he added.
The Supreme Court on Thursday expressed deep displeasure over the statement given by Revanth Reddy after the apex court granted him bail. BRS Leader K Kavitha said that the judiciary does not interfere in the sphere of the legislature and the same respect applies to the legislature as well.
A panel of judges BR Gavai, Prashant Kumar Mishra and KV Viswanathan, criticised the statement made by the Chief Minister of Telangana and pointed out that a constitutional officer is speaking in such a manner. The court asked Revanth Reddy’s lawyer to read out what he said this morning.
Revanth Reddy reportedly raised doubts over Kavitha’s possibility of getting bail in five months, while Manish Sisodia got bail after 15 months and Arvind Kejriwal I haven’t gotten it yet.
The court said it is not concerned about anyone criticising but they will continue to discharge their duties as per their conscience. The top court also questioned whether it would pass the order in consultation with a political party. Cautioning the Chief Minister for his statement, the top court also commented that “the trial could be held outside the state if the Chief Minister of Telangana does not respect the Supreme Court, the highest court of the country.”
BRS leader K Kavitha was released from Tihar Jail on August 27 following the Supreme Court’s decision to grant her bail. This comes amid ongoing investigations into alleged irregularities in the ‘excise policy case’ by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
