Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr is expected to drop out of the 2024 race at an event in Phoenix, Arizona, on Friday, CNN reported citing a source. This comes after RFK Jr’s campaign said he will make an announcement “about the current historic moment and his path forward.” The 70-year-old’s running mate had admitted the campaign was considering a move to “join forces” with the former president. Donald Trump.
Donald Trump and his son Trump Jr have already discussed the possibility of RFK Jr playing a role in his administration if he steps down and supports the Republican candidate.
“He’s a brilliant guy. He’s a very intelligent guy. I’ve known him for a long time. I didn’t know he was thinking about leaving, but if he’s thinking about leaving, I would certainly be open to it,” Trump told CNN’s Kristen Holmes.
On a podcast, Donald Trump Jr. was asked if RFK Jr. could be the next CIA director if Trump is elected. The 43-year-old replied: “Yeah, why not?”
Trump and Kennedy Jr. have also talked about the possibility of a relationship. Last month, during the Republican National Convention, Kennedy’s son posted and quickly deleted a video showing a phone call between him and Trump.
RFK Jr. is scheduled to speak in Phoenix on Friday, hours before Trump holds a rally in nearby Glendale. The independent candidate or his campaign have not yet spoken about withdrawing.
