Amid nationwide protests over the rape and murder of a female student doctor at the Kolkata Medical College, a case of assault on a female medical student in Rohtak, Haryana, has come to light. After the matter came to light, the Rohtak-based Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) expelled the accused resident doctor, who is studying medicine in anatomy.
Police have taken immediate action in the case of assault on a medical student and arrested the accused doctor. The accused is being questioned thoroughly. A high-level investigation is being carried out taking into account all aspects of the case.
The police conducted a medical examination of the student.
Rohtak Deputy Superintendent of Police Virendra Singh said that the PGIMS BDS student complained of assault last night. The police team and senior officials of PGIMS immediately reached the spot and immediately took cognizance of the matter and registered an FIR against the accused youth at the PGIMS police station. Apart from counselling, a medical examination of the student was also conducted in front of his family and advocate.
The statement of the victim student has been recorded before the magistrate. In the complaint, the victim said that on August 16, the accused doctor abducted her from PGIMS and took her to Ambala and Chandigarh and during that time the accused tortured and beat her.
The accused and the victim know each other
Preliminary investigation revealed that both the victim student and the accused doctor belong to PGIMS. The victim student studies BDS while the accused doctor teaches anatomy. Both have known each other for about 5-6 months. The girl’s statement and investigation have not revealed any case of sexual harassment/rape so far.
Seeing the gravity of the matter, the police conducted a raid and arrested the accused doctor, who will be produced in court tomorrow. The matter is being investigated thoroughly. The police are in constant touch with the victim and her family and all possible help is being provided to her.
