Rs 5,000 for women, rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits: Key points of NC election manifesto for Jammu and Kashmir elections

Srinagar: The political atmosphere in Jammu and Kashmir has started heating up as the assembly elections draw closer. National Conference On Monday he published his electoral manifesto. The vice president of the party Omar AbdullahRevealing the manifesto, he said that suggestions had been sought from citizens for drafting the document. The manifesto has 12 guarantees, including restoration of political and legal status of Union Territories, restoration of normalcy, repeal of Public Security Act, protection of land, release of political prisoners and rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits.

“After the conclusion of the parliamentary elections, we have started preparations for the assembly elections. Farooq Abdullah handed over the draft manifesto to senior leader Abdul Rahim Rather. The manifesto was the most important thing for us. After drafting the committee, Rather sahab held a deliberation with the party members on how to get rid of the suffering faced by the people of JK,” said Omar Abdullah.

“We have asked for suggestions from ordinary citizens. We are amazed to see that more than thousands of emails, letters and messages have been sent to the NC County office for our manifesto. All suggestions have been taken into consideration and we have done our best to explore ways to implement them. This is not just an election document, it is our governing agenda. We have prepared it as a roadmap for the next five years,” he added.

Highlights of the National Conference Manifesto:

  • Restoration of the political and legal status of Jammu and Kashmir.
  • Restoring normality
  • Repeal of the Public Security Act
  • Land protection. Policy for the landless.
  • Promote dialogue between India and Pakistan.
  • Release of political prisoners.
  • Rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits.
  • Guaranteed social welfare with aid packages of $5,000 per month for women and 12 free gas cylinders per year.
  • The passport verification procedure will be simplified.
  • Unjustified termination of employment will be remedied.
  • Unnecessary harassment of people on national roads will end.
  • Comprehensive work packages for unemployed youth.

Apart from the above promises, the NC also assured relief from the electricity and water crises in the UT. The Farooq Abdullah-led party also promised transfer of hydropower projects to the UT and implementation of the Wada Report and the JKNC’s pledge to eradicate the drug menace. The manifesto also focused on creating a robust infrastructure in healthcare, tourism, industry and mining.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday announced the schedule for the elections Jammu and Kashmir Assembly ElectionsThe elections in the union territory will be held in three phases on September 18, 25 and October 1. Votes will be counted on October 4 along with those in Haryana.
