He West Bengal Health Department Wednesday eliminated Sandip Ghoshwho is under investigation by the Doctor raped in Kolkata and the murder case, from the post of director of the Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital. Ghosh was appointed director of the institution after he resigned from the RG Kar Medical College amid a huge outcry over the rape case. His removal comes after the Calcutta High Court ordered him on extended leave. The Health Department also removed Ghosh’s replacement at the RG Kar Hospital, Suhrita Paul, along with the current head of the Chest Department and an assistant superintendent.
Ghosh is under CBI Ghosh is being investigated for his mishandling of the heinous rape case. On Wednesday, CBI officers were seen thoroughly searching his car. Ghosh has faced severe criticism from both the Supreme Court and the Calcutta High Court for the mismanagement of the case. The courts asked him why the parents of the Calcutta victim had to wait for three long hours before they could see the body. They also asked why the filing of a complaint with the police was delayed.
The courts also came down heavily on the state government for his quick reappointment to another reputed institution, soon after he resigned as director of RG Kar Hospital, where the junior doctor was raped and murdered on August 9.
On Wednesday, former deputy superintendent of RG Kar Hospital, Akhtar Ali, told Times Now in an exclusive interview that Sandip Ghosh was a “mafia man” who “sold unclaimed bodies”. “He is a criminal, not a doctor. He has ruined the lives of many students… He runs a mafia raj. He has ruined many lives, taught students to consume alcohol and even sold unclaimed bodies and manipulated death records and deleted them so that no one would find out,” he said.
Ali further revealed that two years after Ghosh took over as director of RG Kar Hospital, he had filed a complaint with the state vigilance commission accusing Ghosh of corruption, including embezzlement, nepotism and accepting bribes.
Ali said that when he tried to raise these issues, Dr Sudipta Roy, chairman of the West Bengal Health Recruitment Board, threatened to fire him. Despite these allegations, no action was taken against Ghosh for over a year, allowing him to continue as director.
Ghosh has been questioned by the CBI for over 60 hours in six sessions.
