Sanju Samson replaces Ishan Kishan; Suryakumar Yadav and Prasidh Krishna ruled out of Duleep Trophy first round

Goalkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan will miss the first round of the Duleep Trophy, which starts here on Thursday, due to a groin injury. Kishan has been included in India’s D team, which is being captained by Shreyas Iyer. They will face India C in Anantapur in the first round.

“Wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan has been ruled out of the first round of the Duleep Trophy due to a groin injury sustained during the ongoing All-India Buchi Babu Tournament,” BCCI said in a statement on Wednesday.

“The BCCI medical team is closely monitoring his condition and working towards ensuring a speedy recovery.”

Sanju Samson has been named as Kishan’s replacement but KS Bharat will most likely don the wicket-keeping gloves for India D in the first round.

Kishan has not yet reached Anantapur. India A pacemaker Prasidh Krishnawho is recovering from a surgery he underwent earlier this year, will also miss the Duleep Trophy first-round encounter against India B here at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

“Fast bowler Prasidh Krishna is close to completing his rehabilitation following surgery on his left quadriceps tendon and will miss the first round match of the Duleep Trophy,” the BCCI said.

“All-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has been cleared to play and will be available for selection.”

The Duleep Trophy has been badly affected by injuries to some frontline players.

Suryakumar Yadav He was also ruled out of the first round after suffering a bruise on his hand while playing for Mumbai in the Buchi Babu Tournament.

“Batsman Suryakumar Yadav will also be unavailable for the first round of the Duleep Trophy after suffering a sprained right thumb while participating in the All-India Buchi Babu Tournament,” the statement read.

“The BCCI medical team continues to assess his injury and further assessment next week will determine his availability for the second round.”

Indian players Mohammed Siraj and Umran Malik have also been withdrawn from the tournament due to illness, while all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been released from India B, but the reason was not specified.

Pacer Navdeep Saini replaced Siraj in India B, while Puducherry quick Gaurav Yadav came in for Malik in India C.
