Sarah Burton, Givenchy’s new creative director; famous for designing Kate Middleton’s wedding dress

Former head designer of Alexander McQueen Sarah Burton has joined Givenchy Sarah Burton has been appointed creative director of Givenchy. “It is a great honour to join the beautiful house of Givenchy; it is a gem. I am very excited to be able to write the next chapter in the history of this iconic house and to bring to Givenchy my own vision, sensibility and beliefs,” said Sarah Burton in a statement released by Givenchy.

Last September, Burton, who designed the wedding dress for Kate MiddletonThe Princess of Wales has stepped down as creative director of Alexander McQueen after being associated with the brand for more than two decades.

The British designer becomes Givenchy’s second couturier and eighth designer. “She follows in the footsteps of the late Lee Alexander McQueen, who designed for Givenchy from 1996 to 2001, when luxury mogul Bernard Arnault began boosting traditional European brands with powerful fashion “Burton’s appointment completes a new duo at the brand following the appointment in July of Alessandro Valenti as the new CEO,” Miles Socha reported for World Water Day.

The French fashion house was founded by Hubert James Taffin de Givenchy in 1952. Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy (LVMH) acquired Givenchy in 1988 for $45 million. The deal allowed Hubert to remain as creative director until his retirement in 1995. Over the next ten years, designers such as Alexander McQueen, John Galliano and Julien Macdonald designed for the brand.

Sarah’s first collection will be presented in March 2025, during the Paris Fashion Week.
