Banks are also closed on all Sundays, as well as on national and regional holidays.
Onam 2024: Is this Saturday, September 14, a bank holiday?
Banks are closed on September 14, the second Saturday of the month. However, if it were not the second Saturday, banks would be closed in the states of Kerala and Jharkhand for Onam and Karma Puja respectively.
The RBI designates certain holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act, Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) holidays and Closing of Bank Accounts holidays.
The Government of India has declared only three national holidays in 2024: Republic Day (January 26), Independence Day (August 15) and Gandhi Jayanti (October 2).
The people of Kerala mainly celebrate Onam, an annual cultural and harvest festival. It is an important event for the people of Kerala as it is the official festival of the state and features a variety of cultural activities. The date of Onam is determined by the Panchangam and falls on the 22nd nakshatra Thiruvonam in the month of Chingam in the Malay calendar. This corresponds to the period between August and September in the Gregorian calendar.
