Saurabh also spoke out in support of the victim seeking justice.

Doctors marched to demand justice for the victim

Junior doctors have obtained assurances from the health department in the rape and murder case of a junior doctor at RG Kar Hospital.

Correspondent, Calcutta

On Wednesday, junior doctors from various medical colleges and hospitals in the state launched the Swasthya Bhawan campaign in protest against the heinous incident of rape and murder of a woman doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Senior doctors also participated in the campaign. The West Bengal Young Doctors Front went to Swasthya Bhawan and submitted a memorandum with several demands, including ensuring justice for the victim and increasing security at their workplaces. During this time, a meeting of the Young Doctors Front with the Swasthya Bhawan officials was also held, in which the delegation of junior doctors included people from other medical colleges, including RGKar Medical College. In the meeting, representatives of junior doctors submitted a memorandum and put forward their demands, but were given only assurances. After this, the doctors were given an hour and asked for immediate action, but seeing no action, they all walked out. The Front reported that several demands were submitted to the Swasthya Bhavan officials. But Swasthya Bhawan seemed helpless under pressure from anyone. He said his movement will continue as well.

The campaign started from the CGO Complex near the CBI office in Salt Lake at 11 am on Wednesday and covered a distance of four kilometres till it reached Swasthya Bhavan in Salt Lake itself. The campaign started from the CGO Complex and reached Swasthya Bhawan via Vikas Bhawan, Mayukh Bhawan, Unyan Bhawan, Central Park, Karunamayi. During this, a demonstration was held by doing human bondage. A large number of police forces were deployed near Swasthya Bhavan. Also, there were barricades and deployment of soldiers in front of the CGO Complex as part of the security of the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate. Security was increased by deploying Central Force personnel inside.

The Joint Doctors Platform supported the Swasthya Bhawan campaign organised by the West Bengal Young Doctors Front. At the young doctors’ rally, the agitators were carrying placards, banners and posters in their hands. The agitating young doctors said that after the RGKar incident, Swasthya Bhawan removed Sandeep Ghosh from the post of the director of RGKar Medical College and brought Suhrita Pal in his place but he has not been seen in RGKar so far. The new director RGkar will not come to the Medical College so it is not possible to meet her to discuss various issues including grievances and security. She is taking responsibility from Swasthya Bhawan itself. That is why her resignation is necessary. Along with this, it has been demanded not to keep former director Sandeep Ghosh in any post and also to remove many other officials. Posters reading “Director missing” were also seen in the hands of the agitators at the rally. Junior doctors have also demanded a speedy investigation by the CBI.

On the other hand, former Indian cricket team captain Saurabh Ganguly has also supported the ongoing movement against the RG tax scandal. On Wednesday, Saurabh Ganguly expressed his support for the ongoing movement to get justice for the victim by lighting a candle near his residence in Behala. He lit candles along with his daughter Sana Ganguly. Earlier, Saurabh Ganguly’s wife Dona Ganguly also protested against the RG Kar incident by lighting a candle near her residence. The entire country is agitated over the heinous incident of rape and murder of a young lady doctor at RG Kar Hospital and Medical College. Processions are being taken out at various places to demand justice for the victim. On Wednesday evening, Saurabh Ganguly’s wife Dona Ganguly and daughter Sana Ganguly staged a rally from Deekshamanjari Dance School to Behala School for the Blind against the RG Kar Hospital scandal. However, Saurabh Ganguly did not attend this rally. After the rally was over, Saurabh Ganguly protested against the incident by lighting a candle. On this occasion, Saurabh Ganguly’s daughter Sana Ganguly said that we will have to continue the movement to demand justice. The culprit will have to be given such punishment so that no one else can even think of committing such a heinous incident.

Saurabh’s daughter Sana said: It is important to speak out and demand justice.

Saurabh Ganguly’s daughter Sana, while speaking to the media here, said that he is demanding justice through this protest. We want justice. Rape should stop. It doesn’t matter where in the world it is happening. Every day we hear about rape incidents and we feel very bad. This will happen even in 2024. We talk about equality and then this happens. I don’t live in Kolkata but it is my hometown, I am saddened to hear this. This must be stopped.
