The India Meteorological Department, IMD, has warned that a deep depression over Kutch and adjoining areas is likely to move almost westward to northeastward. Arabian SeaThe IMD has forecast that a deep depression over the area could develop into a cyclonic storm today. Authorities in Kutch, Gujarat, have asked people living in huts and makeshift houses to take shelter in schools, temples or other buildings. The IMD has said that during this period, sea conditions will be rough and wind speed may reach up to 75 km/h along and off the Gujarat coast. Check if the government will announce school holidays for the next 2 days.
Following the IMD warning, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel reached the State Emergency Operation Centre in Gandhinagar and spoke to Arora via video conference about the district administration’s preparedness, an official statement said. More than 25 people have died this week in rain-related incidents in Gujarat. The IMD has warned that more torrential rains and strong winds may hit the coast.

Heavy rains and waterlogging have disrupted normal life in Gujarat. Considering the heavy rains in the state, Gujarat Education Minister Praful Pansheriya announced school Public holidays were observed in all districts on August 27. All primary schools in the state were closed on Tuesday. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has carried out relief and rescue operations in Valsad where heavy rains have led to flood-like situations.
There is no update on school holidays in Gujarat as of now. However, all students of government and private schools are advised to contact their respective schools for the latest updates as schools might opt for online classes.
