Union Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has urged telecom sector leaders to focus on nine priority areas over the next six months, including the goal of ensuring connectivity for all. The announcement came during a meeting with senior executives from leading telecom companies at the India Mobile Congress. The meeting included prominent figures like Bharti Airtel MD and CEO Gopal Vittal, Reliance Jio CEO Pankaj Pawar, Vodafone Idea CEO Akshay Moondra, Qualcomm India Chairman. Savi Soin and Mediatek Country Director Anku Jain along with COAI CEO SP Kocchar. According to sources present at the meeting, Scindia called for the formation of a task force to address the priority areas identified. These include improving fiber-to-the-home connections, protecting telecom networks from threats, preventing fraud, establishing telecom manufacturing zones, and developing data centers and green energy initiatives. Interestingly, none of the attendees expressed concerns regarding the AGI burden or the ongoing satellite spectrum allocation process during discussions. A request for comment was sent to the minister’s office but received no response. The priorities outlined reflect the government’s commitment to advancing the telecommunications sector while addressing key challenges and opportunities in the industry.
