Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan has demanded that the deadline for registration under the Maharashtra government’s Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana be removed to enable all eligible women to access financial assistance.

Chavan said in a letter to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde that the August 31 deadline should be removed and the scheme should be implemented as a social security right. Due to technical glitches, the official portal server is down most of the time while in several cases women do not receive the registration OTP for nearly six hours, he said.

Women are worried about not being able to register for the scheme on time, Chavan said in the letter. He said the registration deadline was earlier July 15 and it was extended to August 31 after he made such a demand during the monsoon session, adding that the age limit was raised from 60 to 65 years after his initiative.
