IMA wrote a letter to PM Modi

Protests are being held across the country against this incident and people are demanding justice for the victim. Let us tell you that the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the case of murder of a trainee female doctor after brutality in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College.

IMA wrote in its letter that ‘On August 9, a post graduate student of RG Kar Medical College was brutally raped and murdered while on duty. This incident has shocked the medical fraternity and the entire country. On August 15, the hospital was vandalised by a mob, which vandalised many parts of the hospital including the crime scene. Doctors, especially women doctors, are vulnerable to violence due to the nature of the profession. It is the responsibility of the authorities to ensure the safety of doctors inside hospitals and premises. The incident at RG Kar Medical College has brought to the fore violence in hospitals.’

Demand to remove the picture from social media

In this case, a petition has been filed in the Supreme Court requesting to remove the picture, name and identity of the deceased from various social media platforms. The petition states that the reputation of the family is being affected by revealing the picture of the deceased doctor and the identity of his family. Almost all the major social media platforms have been made parties in the petition. This petition will be heard in the Supreme Court on August 20.
