Amravati: In a major setback for Jagan Mohan Reddy’s Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP), two of its Rajya Sabha Members of Parliament (MPs) have resigned from the party. Sources told Tims Now that Mopidevi Venkataramana and Beeda Mastan Rao They are likely to join the group led by N Chandra Babu. Telugu Desam Party (TDP).
Vice-President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar accepted his resignation. Venkataramana’s term in the Upper House was due to end in June 2026, while Rao’s was due to end in June 2028.
Following the resignation of Venkataramana and Rao, the YSRCP will have nine MPs in the Upper House and four in the Lower House. According to reports, these two MPs are likely to be re-elected to the Rajya Sabha by the TDP. It is noteworthy that since 2019, the Chandrababu Naidu-led party has no MP in the Upper House.
Rao had earlier resigned from the TDP in 2019 and joined the YSRCP. He represented the Kavali constituency in Andhra Pradesh between 2009 and 2014. Meanwhile, Venkataramana had quit the Congress and joined the Reddy-led party.
Andhra Pradesh Assembly Elections Aftermath:
It is noteworthy that after the massive defeat in the recently concluded Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections, the YSRCP has been witnessing an exodus of leaders. In the 2024 Assembly elections, the YSRCP was restricted to just 11 seats out of 151, while the TDP won 135 seats and its ally Jansena Party (JSP) bagged 21 seats. Chandrababu was sworn in as the CM of the state.
