Bangladesh, an all-terrain country Shakib Al-Hasan Shakib will continue to play and remain part of the squad in Pakistan for the ongoing two-match Test series. Last week, Shakib was named in an FIR along with 146 others accused of murder during the Bangladesh riots and the BCB had decided to delay the decision till the end of the first Test. However, as per a report by Cricbuzz, it has been confirmed that Shakib will continue to play until his guilt is proven.

“He [Shakib] He will continue to play. We received a legal notice to bring him back and we responded to them saying this [that he will continue to play]” said BCB president Faruque Ahmed, quoted in the Bengali daily Prothom Alo on Tuesday, August 27.

“Right now, the FIR is lodged and it is in the initial stage and there are many steps after this and until his guilt is proven, we will force him to play. The Bangladesh team will go to India after the series against Pakistan and we want him in that series as well.

“He is our contracted player and if necessary we will provide him with legal assistance,” Ahmed added.

Following the allegation, a Supreme Court lawyer, Shajib Mahmood Alam, sent a legal notice to the BCB seeking immediate removal of Shakib with immediate effect from all forms of cricket. The notice further said that ICC rules do not allow Shakib to be part of international cricket after being named as an accused and asked the cricketing body to intervene before the BCB prepares its response.

Shakib, who played a pivotal role in Bangladesh’s victory over Pakistan on the final day of the Test in Rawalpindi, is also expected to be in the starting XI for the second Test in Karachi. However, Shakib will not be returning home to Bangladesh anytime soon as he will depart directly from Pakistan for England after being given a non-participation certificate to play in the County Championship for Surrey.
