Shivraj Singh Chouhan shares PM Modi’s roadmap to empower farmers, bring revolution in agriculture

Union Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chauhan gave an exclusive interview to India TV and spoke on a wide range of issues related to his ministry. During the interview, Shivraj Singh Chauhan was asked various questions regarding agriculture and development in rural areas to which he replied that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s aim is to build a developed India and he is working hard on it. There is a lot of focus on solar energy these days as the government wants to turn the food-providing nation into an energy-providing nation.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan on farmers’ protest and rural development

On the burning issue of farmers’ protests, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that the government will focus on the solution through dialogue with all and if a problem arises, they will talk to the farmers and find a solution together. He also stressed that farmers will have to come together to build a developed India.

On rural development, Shivraj Singh said that Prime Minister Modi has already prepared a roadmap. The ministry is going to initiate the fourth phase of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, under which new roads will be constructed for the remaining villages whose population reached 500 in 2011 and tribal areas whose population was 250. 200 million new houses will be constructed in rural areas and 100 million in urban areas for the poor.

The role of women in agriculture

Shivraj Singh was also asked about the role of women in the agricultural sectors, to which he replied that apart from being farmers, women are also the biggest force supporting agriculture and hence the government has initiated many types of programmes like Krishi Sakhi and Drone Didi. He said that the ministry is also training Krishi Sakhi sisters in natural farming, who on receiving the training will teach natural farming to the village farmers.

Shivraj Singh also responded to questions on the use and generation of power in the agriculture sector. He said that Prime Minister Modi wants to build a developed India and he is fully involved in it. And for a developed India, a developed agriculture is necessary. Now Prime Minister Modi is focusing on electricity in agriculture. Shivraj said that the Prime Minister talked about how solar energy can be stored in farmers’ fields through the energy of the sun and if the farmer produces excess electricity, how can we sell it by feeding it into the grid.

He said that ‘Annadaata (food provider) should also become Urja Data (power provider).’ Shivraj said that PM Kusum Yojana has been created for this with three types of models. Farmers can now install solar panels and solar pumps to use electricity for irrigation and earn money by feeding it into the grid, Minister Shivraj said.

The Union Minister termed the PM as a visionary and said that he did not talk about waiving electricity bill but made a plan so that the farmer can install a solar panel at his house under the PM Surya Free Electricity Scheme and generate electricity by reducing his bill amount to zero.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan on natural farming

On efforts towards natural farming, Shivraj Singh Chauhan said that Prime Minister Modi is committed to saving the land for future generations. Chouhan said that he has seen the Prime Minister’s desire to save the land, which is not normal. During the interview, Shivraj Singh Chauhan said that the government is going to start natural farming on 7.5 lakh hectares.
