Simran Sharma wins bronze in women’s 200m final as PM Modi reacts

Defying all odds with steely determination, India’s Simran won the bronze medal in the women’s 200m T12 final at the Paralympic Games here on Saturday.

Reigning world champion Simran finished third on the podium with a personal best time of 24.75 seconds in what was the culmination of a journey that was plagued with obstacles from the day she was born.

The T12 classification at the Paralympic Games is for athletes with visual impairments.

Simran, 24, was born prematurely and spent the next 10 weeks in an incubator, where she was found to have vision problems.

The Indian, who became world champion this year in Kobe, Japan, faced numerous challenges throughout her life, including her father’s chronic illness and his subsequent demise.

She had previously finished fourth in the 100-meter event.

PM Modi reacts to Simran’s bronze medal win

Prime minister Narendra Modi The Prime Minister took to social media to send an emotional congratulatory message to Simran Sharma for winning the bronze medal at the Paralympic Games. Narendra Modi took to social media platform X to praise Simran’s commitment to excellence.

“Congratulations to Simran Sharma for winning a bronze medal in the women’s 200m T12 event at the 2024 Paralympic Games! Her success will inspire many. Her commitment to excellence and her skills are noteworthy,” PM Modi wrote in his tweet.
