So far, more than 2,200 young people have been offered paid internships; Registration will begin from October 12.

New Delhi: Under the ‘Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme’, which was launched on a pilot basis with an aim to make youth employable, companies have so far provided training to over 2,200 people.


Sources in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) told PTI on Friday: “Companies have offered training to over 2,200 youth on the internship portal till 3 pm on October 4.” About 50 companies have been included in this portal.

Monthly financial assistance of Rs 5,000 for the youth selected for the internship

Under this scheme, which was launched on Thursday on a pilot basis, young people selected for internships will receive a monthly financial aid of Rs 5,000. Additionally, they will receive a one-time grant of Rs 6,000 if they are part of the internship. The internship will be for 12 months.

There is a plan to offer 1.25 lakh internship opportunities in the current financial year. It is estimated to cost Rs 800 crore.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in her budget speech for fiscal year 2024-25, said the government will launch a comprehensive plan to offer internships. Under this, one million youth will have training opportunities in 500 major companies in five years. They will have the opportunity to learn about the real-life business environment, work in various business sectors for 12 months and also gain employment opportunities.

Registration from October 12 to 25

The Prime Minister’s Internship Program was implemented through the online portal ‘PMinternship.mca.gov.in’. The portal has been developed by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.

In the first phase, candidates will be able to register on the portal between October 12 and 25. Applicants will be shortlisted on October 26.

The companies will select the candidates from October 27 to November 7. Subsequently, selected candidates will have time from November 8 to 15 to accept internship offers from companies. The internship will begin from December 2 and will last for 12 months.

The youth selected for the internship will be provided insurance cover under Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana. The government will pay the premium for this. Apart from this, companies can provide additional accident insurance to the selected candidate.
