Soldier assaulted in police custody; furious minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore rebukes policemen | India News

JAIPUR: An army soldier was stripped and assaulted while in police custody, Rajasthan chief minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore said on Monday after visiting the Shipra Path police station where he reprimanded the policemen over the alleged incident and raised the matter with the Director General of Police. A sub-inspector and three constables have been dismissed and an inquiry has been ordered, DGP UR Sahoo told PTI.

Police had raided an illegal shisha bar the previous night where they arrested a few people including the soldier, the DGP said. “The Jaipur Police Commissioner has sent a sub-inspector and three constables to the police lines and an inquiry has been ordered,” the DGP said.

Rajasthan’s Sainik Kalyan minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, who has served in the army, came to the police station and questioned the conduct of the officers. “I came to know of a very sad incident – a soldier who is serving in Kashmir and is visiting here was stripped naked by some police officers and beaten with sticks. He was made to sit in the middle of the people and some policemen made him repeat that the police is the ‘baap’ of the Indian Army,” Rathore told reporters.

“I have been in uniform and I respect the Rajasthan police. This is a matter of great sadness and shows the disgusting mentality of those two-three people who did this,” he said and expressed confidence that the Rajasthan police will take strict action against such elements. He said such incidents cannot be tolerated.

“The medical report states that he was assaulted by people. An Indian Army soldier was caught and beaten up by five police personnel, and that too without any reason. That is why strict action needs to be taken against those who break the law in the police department,” he said. Rathore said he spoke to the Director General of Police, who assured him that action would be taken.
