In one of the biggest property deals of the year in the U.K., Indian businessman Harish Ahuja spent £21 million ($27 million) on a home in London’s Notting Hill neighborhood, defying a broader slowdown in luxury purchases. According to a U.K. filing, Harish Ahuja bought the eight-story residential convent in July and is the owner and operator of Shahi Exports Pvt.
Following the renovation, his son Anand Ahuja and daughter-in-law Sonam Kapoor intend to occupy part of the sprawling property as their home. Another part of the residence will likely be converted into apartments, according to Bloomberg, which cited sources with knowledge of the project.

The article claimed that the house, which has more than 20,000 square feet of floor space, was previously owned by a religious order and a UK-registered charity, and is just a short walk from Kensington Gardens.
Harish Ahuja’s home is one of a handful to have sold for more than £20m this year, alongside a £27m Mayfair mansion sold by art collectors and oil billionaires Fatima and Eskandar Maleki at a 33% discount.
Last year, Ravi Ruia bought a property overlooking Regent’s Park for £113m. Adar Poonawalla also paid £138m for a property he was renting to Polish millionaire Dominika Kulczyk, making it the UK’s most expensive home purchase of 2023.
Who is Harish Ahuja?
The eight-storey residential convent was acquired in July by Shahi Exports Pvt owner and operator Harish Ahuja, according to a UK document. He is the father of Anand Ahuja and father-in-law of actor Sonam Kapoor.
Ahuja made his fortune through Shahi Exports, a local division of Fitch Ratings that supplies global brands such as Uniqlo, Decathlon and H&M. According to its website, the corporation runs more than 50 factories and has more than 100,000 employees. Ahuja’s son, Anand, owns his own retail business in addition to being a director of Shahi Exports.
Sonam married Anand in 2018 and the couple shares their Mumbai home with their son Vayu, who was born in August 2022.
