Speedboat capsized, two MPs, MLA and district magistrate fell into river

Birbhum.

Two MPs and a district magistrate (DM), who had gone to visit the flood-affected area in Labhpur of the district, fell into the Kuan river when their speedboat capsized. At this, the rescue team immediately entered the river and saved everyone, including the three public representatives. But one person has been reported missing. Divers are searching for him. It is reported that except the rescue team members, other people in the speedboat were not wearing life jackets. Questions have started to arise in this regard. It has been said that around 15 villages in Labhpur have been submerged by the flood. Contact with six to seven villages has been lost. According to information received, on Wednesday, a total of 13 persons including Birbhum District Magistrate Vidhan Rai, Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajnarayan Mukhopadhyay, MP Sameerul Islam, MP Asit Mal and Labhpur MP Abhijeet Sinha took a tour of the flood-affected areas in a speedboat. While visiting the flood-affected area, the speedboat suddenly capsized due to which MP, MLA, DM and SP etc. travelling in the boat fell into the river. These persons were crossing the Kuan River in a speedboat to reach the flood-affected villages, but suddenly the boat went out of control and capsized. All the persons travelling in it fell into the river. SP Rajnarayan Mukhopadhyay, DM Vidhan Raat and others fell into the water. Following the incident, rescue work was immediately started by the rescue team and local people. Thanks to this, most people were saved. However, one person is still being sought.

The most worrying thing about the accident is that the people on the speedboat were not wearing life jackets. This is considered a major safety lapse. This negligence in safety matters by senior administration officials is worrying. Following the incident, it is necessary to increase the activity of the administration in the areas affected by the floods. The local administration is taking measures in this direction. There is fear among these officials following the accident.
