‘Stormy Saturday’: Bomb threats received by more than 20 flights operated by Indian airlines

More than 20 flights operated by several Indian airlines reported bomb threats since what some called a “stormy Saturday” on October 19 for Indian airlines. In the past week, a total of 38 flights were the subject of bomb threats through social media posts. Airlines like Vistara, Air India, IndiGo, Akasa Air, Vistara, SpiceJet and Alliance Air have been affected by these threats.

Among the flights involved are IndiGo routes from Delhi and Mumbai to Istanbul, as well as from Jodhpur to Delhi, and Vistara flight from Udaipur to Mumbai. Three international flights departing from Delhi (bound for Paris, Hong Kong and London) also received security threats. IndiGo issued two statements acknowledging the safety alerts regarding flight 6E 17 from Mumbai to Istanbul and flight 6E 11 from Delhi to Istanbul.

The airline is cooperating with the relevant authorities and implementing necessary precautions to follow guidelines during such disturbances.
“Flight 6E 184, operating from Jodhpur to Delhi, has received a security-related alert. The aircraft has landed in Delhi and customers have deboarded; we are coordinating with security agencies as per procedure,” the airline said.

Vistara also reported that shortly before landing, flight UK 624 from Udaipur to Mumbai experienced a security issue. On arrival at Mumbai airport, the plane was taken to an isolation bay for mandatory inspections.

Sources indicate that since Saturday morning, more than 20 flights have reported bomb threats. On Friday, three international Vistara flights received similar threats that turned out to be hoaxes; its Delhi-London flight was diverted to Frankfurt as a precautionary measure. In recent days, more than 40 Indian airline flights have faced bomb threats, which were later confirmed as false alarms.
