So-called Arabic sushi from street vendors receives more than 11 million visits and food lovers can’t believe it

As food lovers know, experimentation can lead to dreams or nightmares. Recently, an Arabic sushi street vendor has left food lovers wondering if there are limits to fusion dishes. The video, by ‘india_eat_mania’, has racked up over 11 million views so far. In the video, which has gone viral, we see the chef assembling different elements and describing them. He first spreads a sheet of nori on the mat and spreads soy sauce on it. Next, he adds a layer of what appears to be sushi rice. He sprinkles some sesame seeds on top. The vlogger quizzes the chef as he adds the other components of the filling.

He explains that he adds paneer cooked with “Arabic” masalas, cucumber, carrots, bell peppers, and 2-3 types of sauces. Once all these ingredients are layered, he rolls up the mat and cuts the roll into 9 pieces. He garnishes them with cheese and cherry tomatoes. Accompaniments include cabbage mixed with Korean sauces, as well as small portions of an unnamed Japanese sauce, jalapeno sauce, and another type of sauce. According to the title, this dish costs 250 rupees and can be found at Chatori Gali in Lucknow. Watch the full viral video below:

The comments section was filled with disapproval. Some tried to defend the dish, but many were not happy with the fusion of flavors. Some also pointed out that the basic inspiration was not sushi, but the Korean delicacy known as kimbap. See some of the reactions below:
