India has won the most medals so far in Paralympics with 29

The 2024 Paris Paralympics concluded on September 8. This time India has given its best performance so far in these games by winning 29 medals and bagging 7 gold, 9 silver and 13 bronze medals. This time India has been at the 18th position in the medal table. Earlier, in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, India had won 19 medals and secured the 24th position in the medal table. Both the 2024 and 2020 Paralympics have been historic for India. Overall, India has won a total of 48 medals in the Paralympics. It won 19 medals in 2020 and 29 medals in 2024, i.e. a total of 48 medals. So far, out of the total 60 medals won by India at the Paralympics, 80 per cent of the medals were won by India in 2020 and 2024 alone. With this, India had sent the largest contingent of players till date for the Paris 2024 Paralympics. This time the Indian team had 84 players. The Indian team participated in 12 sports this time. The Indian contingent at the 2020 Paralympics was 54.
Most medals won in athletics: This time India won 17 medals in athletics which include 4 gold, 6 silver and 7 bronze. This time in badminton, India has won the most five medals so far which include 1 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals while it had won 4 medals in the 2020 Paralympics.

World Cooperative Conference to be held in November

The International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) will hold its General Assembly and World Cooperative Conference in India for the first time in 130 years. The International Cooperative Alliance General Assembly and World Cooperative Conference 2024 will be organised from 25-30 November at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The theme of the conference is: “Cooperation Creates Prosperity for All”. This conference will also officially launch the United Nations International Year of Cooperation – 2025.

Rajesh Verma becomes Chairman of Air Quality Management Commission

IAS officer Rajesh Verma has taken charge as the new whole-time chairman of the Centre’s Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on September 9. The CAQM has been entrusted with the task of preparing a strategy to reduce air pollution in Delhi-NCR. Verma, a 1987-batch IAS officer, has been appointed for three years. He will replace MM Kutty, who headed the commission for three years. Verma was serving as secretary to chairman Draupadi Murmu before his retirement on August 31.

The Center notified the constitution of the 23rd Law Commission

The Central Government has notified the constitution of the 23rd Law Commission. The term of the Commission will commence from 1st September 2024 and will run for a period of three years up to 31st August 2027. The Commission will have four full-time members, including a Chairman and a full-time Member-Secretary. The Secretary, Department of Law and the Secretary, Legislative Department will be ex-officio members of the panel. The commission may have five part-time members. Serving judges of the Supreme Court and the High Court will be the chairmen and members of the Law Commission. The notification said that the judges will continue to function on a full-time basis till the date of their retirement from the Supreme Court and the High Court or till the completion of the term of the Commission, whichever is earlier.

The 45th FIDE Chess Olympiad has started in Budapest

The 45th FIDE Chess Olympiad began on September 11 in Budapest, the capital of Hungary. More than 1800 players are participating in it. India has been given the second priority after the USA. D Gukesh, Arjun Erigaysi and R Praggnanandhaa are leading India in the championship. The Indian team is in a strong position with Vidit Gujarati and P Harikrishna. In the women’s category, the Indian team includes Dronavalli Harika, Grand Master R. Vaishali, Divya Deshmukh, Vantika Aggarwal and Tania Sachdev. India has been given the second priority after Georgia. In the last edition, India won bronze medals in both the open and women’s categories.

Jannik Sinner won his second Grand Slam title

At the US Open tennis tournament, Jannik Sinner won his second Grand Slam title by defeating Taylor Fridge 6-3, 6-4, 7-5. He had won the Australian Open earlier this year. He is the first Italian player to win the US Open title.

Algerian presidential election results announced

Abdel Madjid Tebboune has been declared the winner of the recent presidential elections in Algeria. According to official results, Tebbone won 95 percent of the vote, Abdul Ali Hassani Cherif won 3 percent and Youssef Auchiche won 2 percent. A total of 48 percent voted in the election.
