Do screenwriters make better directors? Suman Kumar would be the right person to answer that question. The writer made his directorial debut with Keerthy Suresh‘s Raghu Thatha’s latest release. “If you ask me, writing a script is more difficult. Someone has to put it on paper for it to be done.” [the rest] “A director’s job is to keep the vision consistent; it’s a job where you have to manage a lot of people. The scriptwriter can write a scene for money and at your location, there’s only idli sambar,” he laughs.

Kumar, who has written the last two seasons of The family manHe chose a Tamil film to become a director. The decision was “sentimental.” “It’s my mother tongue,” he explains. The linguistic element is deeper than that; through his protagonist, Raghu Thatha explores the imposition of the Hindi language on society.
“The story came from my friend. His grandfather was teasing his father about how he had to take a Hindi exam to get a raise. Originally, we thought of a man in the center, but then we wanted to flip the narrative. A woman who gets a raise [at the centre] “It allows you to explore more layers. I didn’t set out to make a female-centric film; I just wanted to make a good, fun film. Women experience a lot of impositions, from what they should wear to who they should be with. It’s a great opportunity to explore things.”
He has now joined forces with Raj-DK as director of The Family Man 3. “What motivates me to do different things is that I love telling stories. I am tireless, although the last month has been chaotic, between the shooting of The Family Man 3 and the release of the film.”
