Anticsone of India’s leading online food delivery platforms, has introduced ‘Swiggy UPI’, an integrated system digital payment Solution powered by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). This new feature, announced on Wednesday, aims to streamline the payment process for users, reducing the number of steps required to complete a transaction from five to just one.
With Swiggy UPI, customers can now make UPI payments directly within the Swiggy app, eliminating the need to switch to third-party UPI apps. This integration is expected to significantly improve the user experience by speeding up the payment process, which now takes just five seconds compared to over 15 seconds earlier.
“This feature aligns with Swiggy’s mission to offer unparalleled convenience to consumers as UPI remains one of the most preferred payment methods in India,” said Anurag Panganamamula, Chief Revenue and Growth Officer, Swiggy.
The new UPI feature is powered by Juspay’s HyperUPI plugin, ensuring a seamless checkout process for users. Customers can complete a one-time setup to link their bank accounts by visiting the in-app checkout page and selecting Swiggy UPI. After this setup, users will only need to enter their UPI PIN for future transactions, making payments faster and more efficient.
Swiggy also highlighted the in-house plugin’s ability to immediately notify users of any issues such as insufficient funds or incorrect credentials, allowing them to quickly resolve the issues and complete their payments.
The move comes at a time when UPI transactions in India continue to rise. As of July 2024, UPI-based transactions reached Rs 20.64 trillion, with a total transaction count of 14.44 billion, reflecting the growing popularity of digital payments in the country.
