Tamil Nadu AI Labs: TN government signs deal with Google for Tamil Nadu AI Labs in Chennai

The Tamil Nadu government said on Saturday that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (Memorandum of Understanding) with the search giant Google to configure the ‘Tamil Nadu AI Labs‘ in Chennai.

The MoU was signed as part of CM MK Stalin’s 17-day visit to the US to gather fresh intelligence. investments.

“Say hello to what I would like to call ‘Chenn.ai’,” said Industries Minister Dr TRB Rajaa in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “With this partnership, we aim to train 2 million youth in AI through Naan Mudhalvan, collaborate with startups and help SMEs and the rural economy. We want our youth to be a future-ready workforce.”

Rajaa added that on the first day of the CM’s visit to the US, the government had signed six MoUs across multiple high-impact sectors, Rs 900 crore in investments and creation of over 4,000 high-quality jobs for the state.

These investments include Nokia’s creation of a research and development centre in Siruseri, the expansion of PayPal’s AI-ML-focused emerging technology development centre in Chennai, semiconductor innovation with Microchip and Yield Engineering Systems in Coimbatore, an advanced AI technology development centre with Applied Materials, and Infinx’s technology centre in Madurai.

“We had some very interesting meetings today and there are many more exciting developments in store for Tamil Nadu,” Rajaa said in his post.

Just minutes before revealing the investment in Tamil Nadu AI Labs, TN CM Stalin had shared a post on X with pictures of his visits to the tech giant’s offices in San Francisco. “An impressive visit to the offices of Apple, Google and Microsoft,” he said. “We discussed several interesting opportunities and partnerships. We are determined to strengthen these partnerships and make Tamil Nadu one of the key growth engines of Asia!”
