Tech News: Google may enable notification syncing on Android devices: Report | Tech News

Android apps typically display notifications separately on each device they are installed on and do not record when a notification has been viewed on a device. As a result, notifications that the user has viewed on one device reappear as unread on another device. This happens because the status of notifications is not synchronized across devices.

It looks like Google is planning to remove duplicate notifications. According to Android Authority, the company could be working on a fix for this issue, as suggested by code discovered in the latest Android 15 QPR1 Beta 2 update released last week.

According to the report, a look at the latest update revealed a reference to a “cross-device sync” feature. This option would reportedly appear in Settings, specifically under Notifications, alongside “sensitive notifications” and the new “notification recall” feature. The placement of the class that controls the “cross-device sync” option also suggests that notifications may be synced across devices.

According to Android Authority, the new sync option could lead to the creation of a new page in the Google Play Services app focused on syncing notifications between Android devices. While there’s no official confirmation, the feature is expected to be available across the Android ecosystem, not just Pixel devices.

This potential feature would improve the Android experience, making it smoother and easier to use and avoiding the annoyance of repeatedly seeing the same notification.
