Tejaswi Yadav brands Himanta Biswa Sarma as ‘Chinese version of Yogi’; BJP hits back ‘Seems Sam Pitroda has taken over…’

Former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejaswi Yadav has called Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma “the Chinese version of Yogi” after the latter announced the scrapping of the “Jummah Break,” the two-hour break given to people following Islam for their Friday prayers, also known as “Namaz.”

Tejaswi Yadav slammed the Assam Chief Minister and said Himanta Biswa Sarma “continues to deliberately carry out acts that harass Muslims”.

“BJP people have made Muslim brothers an easy target to spread hatred, get Modi-Shah’s attention and polarise society,” Tejaswi Yadav posted on X (formerly Twitter).

“People of all religions, except the RSS, have contributed to the independence of the country. Our Muslim brothers have made sacrifices to achieve the freedom of the country and as long as we are here, no one can harm them,” Yadav added.

BJP hits back at Tejaswi Yadav

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday hit out at leader Tejashwi Yadav, who dubbed Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma as the “Chinese version of Yogi”, saying such comments reflect the “racist mindset” of the BJP’s leaders.

BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla, drawing parallels between Yadav’s comments and those of Overseas India Congress president Sam Pitroda, accused the INDIA bloc of harbouring a racist mindset, suggesting that Pitroda’s influence has permeated Yadav’s mindset.

“Tejashwi Yadav labels Assam Chief Minister @himantabiswa as ‘Chinese’ because he is Assamese and from the North East. This reflects the racist mindset of the INDI Alliance and it seems Sam Pitroda has taken over Tejaswi’s mind when he makes such racist remarks. Are Rahul Gandhi and Gaurav Gogoi endorsing this as ‘Muhabbat ki Dukaan’? Will ties with RJD be terminated for such unconstitutional, anti Bharat Jodo, racist and hateful remarks?” he said in a post on X.

Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday slammed senior RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav for his comments on the rule of breaking prayers and advised him to practice before preaching.

“Tejashwi Yadav is criticising me, but I want to ask him… is there any similar practice in Bihar? You (Yadav) should have implemented the four-hour break when you were Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar. Practice this first before preaching,” Sarma said.

The controversy between the INDIA bloc and the BJP erupted after the Assam government on Friday decided to abolish the two-hour break for Friday prayers to facilitate Muslim lawmakers to offer prayers. The rule will be implemented from the next session, Assam’s Parliamentary Affairs Minister said.
