Telegram has revised its policy, allowing users to flag “illegal content” in private chats for moderators to review, according to a recent update to its Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section.
This means that users can now report content in private chats for review, marking a change from its previous policy of not moderating private chats. The change could alter the reputation of Telegram, which has been associated with facilitating illegal activities.
Previously, the FAQ said:
“All Telegram chats and groups are private between their participants. We do not process any requests related to them.”
The update came shortly after Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, was arrested in France in late August. The arrest It was reportedly part of a wide-ranging investigation into the messaging platform that French authorities say has been a conduit for illegal activities.
