In view of heavy rainfall across the state, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has asked all government department officials to be on high alert.

The Chief Minister spoke to Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari and directed to ensure that officials of Revenue, Municipal, Electricity and Health Departments are on high alert.

Authorities have been instructed to take all necessary measures to avoid untoward incidents and to shift the population from low lying areas to relief camps immediately. In view of the lifting of the sluice gates of the dams, authorities have been asked to evacuate the population from low lying areas to safer places.

Following the CM’s instructions, Chief Secretary and Director General of Police Jitender held a teleconference with Collectors, SPs, Commissioners of Police, Corporations and Municipal Commissioners of all districts. The senior officials have been asked to review the ground situation from time to time and take necessary action.

According to the latest update of Telangana weather report, Dr K Nagaratnam, Director, Hyderabad Meteorological Centre, said that Telangana is likely to receive light to moderate rainfall during the next 3 days.

“A red alert has been issued for today and tomorrow in Telangana. A red alert has been issued for the eastern and north-eastern districts and an orange alert has been issued for the northern and southern districts. A heavy rainfall alert has been issued for all districts. In GHMC, there will be moderate to heavy rainfall at times. An orange alert has been issued for Hyderabad for today and tomorrow,” Nagaratnam said.

In a press release, the IMD said on Saturday that southwest monsoon has been active in Telangana, adding that very heavy rainfall occurred at isolated places in Narayanpet and heavy rainfall occurred at most places in Mahabubabad, a few places in Warangal and isolated places in B. Kothagudem, Khammam, Mahabubnagar, Mulugu, Nagarkurnool, Suryapet and Wanaparthy districts of Telangana.

The IMD has issued a red alert and forecast that very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places in Adilabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet and Jogulamba Gadwal districts of Telangana on Sunday.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert and forecast heavy rainfall at some places in Rajanna Sirsilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvangiri, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajigiri, Medak districts of Telangana on Sunday.
