Odisha News: Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari held a review meeting on Tuesday to assess the flood situation caused by heavy rains in various parts of the state. This meeting was attended by Special Relief Commissioner Devranjan Kumar Singh, Additional Director General Sanjay Kumar and other senior officials. After a review, Minister Suresh Pujari said that all 30 districts of the state have received heavy rains in the last 24 hours. Malkangiri district has received maximum rainfall. Koraput has also been badly affected by heavy rains. Due to fear of possible emergency situations, all district officials have been instructed to remain on high alert. Despite heavy rains, there is no news of any casualty. Authorities have deployed 80 boats and helicopters have also been kept ready for possible rescue operations.

30 ODRAF teams deployed in 12 districts

According to a press release from the Office of the Special Relief Commissioner, the administration has deployed 30 ODRAF teams in 12 districts and the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) to deal with the emergency. Besides, seven fire brigades have been deployed in Malkangiri. NDRF teams have been deployed in Puri, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Cuttack districts and two more teams are on standby at the battalion headquarters. The Border Security Force (BSF) is also prepared to assist in large-scale evacuation efforts if required. Apart from this, the Home Ministry has made arrangements to keep a helicopter available for emergency operations. 14 medical teams and five veterinary teams are deployed in Malkangiri. 14 relief camps have been set up. 500 polythene packets have been sent to Malkangiri to assist in relief efforts and an additional 1500 packets are being sent today.

Instructions for organizing free cooking in Malkangiri and Koraput

According to the Relief Commissioner’s office, Koraput and Malkangiri districts have been directed to arrange free kitchens to provide food to the people affected by the flood-like situation. Top priority has been given to identifying vulnerable people and shifting them to safe shelters. Instructions have been given to identify people living in houses, huts or low-lying kutcha areas and if necessary, shift them to safe shelters.
